The first baby food I gave to my son was clear soup of roasted white rice and roasted mung dal. we started with 5 tea spoons of this clear soup on the first 2 days. I added green leafy vegetable on the 3rd day and increased the 5 spoon-feeding to 10 to 15 tea spoons. We then kept increasing the quantity, consistency and addition of variety of vegetables day by day. Here are some recipe for yor baby food. The recipes will not be limited to baby food for infants who just started solids, but also for toddlers. Choose your recipe accordingly. You can certainly use the toddler food recipe and crush it in to a blender for you infant.

The First Food:

Rice-Mung Dal Clear Soup:

  •  Rice 2 cup
  • Yellow split mung dal 1 cup
  • Asafoetida
  • Turmeric

Take required quantity of rice and mung dal. Wash both, clean and let it dry for 2 hours. Once dry, roast the rice and mung dal in a pan until light golden brown. Many people say that roasting a grain reduces its cooking time, boosts it the nutty flavor and makes it easier to digest.

Take out around 5 tea spoons of the rice and mung dal, and add 1/2 cup of water, asafoetida, turmeric powder and cook it in a pressure cooker or pan. The amount is so small, its easier to cook it in a sauce pan. Store the remaining roasted rice and mung dal in an air tight container. Some prefer grinding the rice and dal and store the powder. When using the powder add it to water and bring it boil.

Once the above rice and dal is cooked, run it in blender. Strain it and the soup is ready.
